Gaming market: trends and future projection

With its great cultural and economic diversity, Brazil represents a promising scenario in the gaming market. Technological advances and Internet access are significantly changing the consumption habits of the Brazilian population. Over the years, we have observed a transformation in entertainment habits, with a considerable and growing interest in online gaming and betting. This growth is likely to be a direct result of the ease of access that mobile devices have to offer.

There is also a significant increase in interest in sporting events, both domestic and international. This trend is in line with Brazilian culture itself, where football in particular is of great relevance. For instance, in the first half-year of 2023, fans' expenditures on football clubs increased by 8% compared to the same period in 2022.

Inside the Brazilian gaming market

The figures are impressive and illustrate the robust expansion of the market. According to data from the Brazilian Association of Digital Game Developers (Abragames) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), the number of game development studios in the country increased by 169% from 2018 to 2022. Additionally, Brazil has become the fifth largest consumer market for games in the world in 2022, with approximately 101 million players, according to Newzoo. As a result, R$2.2 billion will be generated in that year, placing Brazil in 10th place among countries with the highest volume of resources.

Not surprisingly, the 2022 Game Brazil survey showed that electronic games are one of the main entertainment forms for 76.5% of Brazilians. This is especially true among the younger population, who make up most gamers in the country. According to the survey, 25.5% of online gamers in Brazil are between 20 and 24 years old, and 24.1% belong to social class B2. This trend points to an ever-growing market with opportunities for operators to adapt to the demands of a highly connected and engaged audience.

Opportunities for operators and fun for gamers

The future of the gaming market in Brazil appears even more promising when considering the global panorama of the gaming industry. In 2022, US$ 197 billion was generated, representing a growth of more than 5% compared to the previous year. In this panorama, Statista's projections indicate a continuous growth of the global gaming market, with an annual average of 12.1% until 2027. By 2024 alone, the sector is expected to be worth US$242.7 billion worldwide.

These figures reflect not only the potential for expansion of the Brazilian gaming market but also the significance of keeping up with global trends. After all, the goal is to offer Brazilian players even more attractive and innovative experiences.
